Building Europe's social web infrastructure

We're building independent European infrastructure for the open social web – piece by piece, component by component – so that no single company controls everything. And we're developing the first application built entirely on this independent infrastructure, to validate the stack and offer a truly independent alternative.

Independent European social apps

Built on infrastructure we own and control – no single points of failure, no foreign dependencies, no hidden agendas.

Why this matters

There are many talented teams across Europe building great apps on the Atmosphere. That's exactly what we want to see – and what we're working to support.

But apps need infrastructure to run on. Servers, relays, indexing, search, feeds, moderation – the invisible backbone that makes everything work. Today, almost all of our social infrastructure is controlled by a handful of American companies. If it goes down, everything goes down. If it changes direction, everyone is affected.

We're building the European alternative so that European developers, apps and their users have independent infrastructure they can rely on.

We're also building a microblogging webapp that validates the stack and offer a 100% independent European alternative; we're experimenting with new calmer, information discovery formats; and we're collaborating closely with other European builders.

Support the build

Every contribution helps us build the next piece of independent European infrastructure. This is funded by the community, for the community.

Every contribution builds the next piece

Regardless of the amount raised, we report monthly on how funds are used and our progress. This is infrastructure built in the open, for everyone.
